A Nigerian man, 25, defrauds thirty women out of Rs. 58 lakh in five years

Chris Maxwell, a 25-year-old Nigerian, has admitted to robbing around 30 individuals of more than $70,000—roughly equal to Rs 58 lakh—over the course of five years. He enjoyed frivolous spending on expensive clothes and club nights. At first, he felt guilty, but as his wealth grew, he lost interest in them.

According to Chris Maxwell, he started conniving while he was a student at the age of 17. He used social media to target people in the US, UK, Canada, and Germany. By finding areas of interest in common and earning their trust, he would build rapport and give them confidence to confide in him. After that, he would go on to establish a rapport with them, which would later become the basis of his con game.

Chris tells the story of how he managed to persuade an American lady he had been corresponding with online for a year to send him more than $30,000 (about Rs 24 lakh). When she got the money, she became sick and melancholy and wanted to find out who he really was. Chris ultimately showed her his face, feeling guilty for her condition. She had wept when she saw him, but she had also forgiven him for his deceit.

Wearing an American Army uniform and posing as an officer, Chris used a deceitful strategy to draw in unwary ladies. His military clothes, short blonde hair, and strong build instantly enthralled his victims. His plot affected women in many nations, including America, Canada, Australia, and Britain.

The defendant said that he was detained in Nigeria because of his romantic frauds, but no official charges were brought against him. He admitted that a few of his colleagues had completed jail terms. He gave his victims nothing in exchange for the money he took. But Chris was hired as a consultant by Social Catfish, a business that uses reverse search technology to uncover scammers, thanks to the American woman’s introduction. He said he was living a happy life today. Fascinatingly, after denying his illegal actions, he acknowledges that he leaked a 40-page guidebook called How To Make A White Woman Fall in Love With You Through Online Chat, which fraudsters use.

Targeting women over 40 is advised in the handbook, which also offers comprehensive guidance on examining prospective victims’ social media accounts to learn about their interests, occupations, passions, children, age, location, and hobbies. It advises reaching out using the data acquired or choosing from a list of one hundred pick-me phrases, including “Life without you would be like a broken pencil…pointless.”
