Residents of Surat go diamond hunting after hearing that precious stones were spilling over the streets

A strange event recently occurred in a place that is also referred to as the “Diamond City of India” when recordings of residents searching the streets for the priceless jewels went viral. This came about when an internet rumor of diamonds worth crores of rupees unexpectedly spilling on the streets of Varachha, a famous mini-market famed for its diamond trade, spread.

On social media, a video of the event that went viral and showed individuals assiduously looking for gems in the Surat neighborhood of Varaccha has been making the rounds. In the video, a woman can be seen using a broom to sweep up the area in the hopes of finding a diamond among the accumulated dust.

Before the frantic hunt began, the rumor was only loosely confirmed. According to IANS, officials have verified that a bag of American diamonds was thrown on the street, which sparked rumors that genuine diamonds had also been spilled.

Soon after the word began to spread, a sizable number of individuals were seen searching the streets for diamonds. The occurrence happened on September 24. Such films were widely shared on social media. Many individuals were even shown in the film picking up little stones from the sandy road and carefully scrutinizing them to verify their legitimacy.

But further examinations showed that the stones found on the streets were really fake jewelry and saree decorations made from American diamonds.

Additionally, according to the authorities, the story that diamond dealers had been compelled to throw away their priceless goods because of financial difficulties was untrue.
