The legendary movie Pudhiya Bhoomi, directed by M.G. Ramachandran, celebrates its 55th birthday

Pudhiya Bhoomi, directed by Tapi Chanakya, just celebrated its 55th birthday. The movie, which starred M.G. Ramachandran and Jayalalitha J., was released on June 27, 1968. Pudhiya Bhoomi, which was billed as a remake of the Hindi film “Himalaya Ki God Mein,” became a financial success. The movie’s production cost was Rs 20 lakhs, while its revenue was Rs 50 lakhs.

The protagonist of Pudhiya Bhoomi is an idealistic doctor who puts helping an impoverished hamlet before pursuing a bright profession. Significant parts are also played by M.N. Nambiar, S.A. Ashokan, Nagesh, Pandari Bai, and Ramapriya in the film. P.N. Sundaram was in charge of the film’s cinematography, while V. C. Guhanathan created the soundtrack. The production label for this project was J.R. Movies.

Pudhiya Bhoomi’s 1968 release matched the DMK party’s 1967 inaugural triumph. In addition, a by-election was held in the Tenkasi Constituency that year as a result of the tragic passing of Congressman Chidambaram Pillai. A number of well-known ministers, notably the former Public Works Minister Karunanidhi, extensively campaigned in the Tenkasi Constituency in support of K.M. Kathiravan, the DMK candidate for the by-election.

M.G. Ramachandran plays the lead character in the movie, Kathiravan, a skilled cardiac surgeon who performs a ground-breaking operation that has never been done in India.

On the professional front, M.G. Ramachandran produced a number of popular movies, including Rickshawkaran, Ulagam Sutrum Valiban, Kudiyiruntha Koyil, and Nadodi Mannan. He has also directed noteworthy movies including Thayai Katha Thanayan, Nam Naadu, and Enga Veettu Pillai. In the 1936 film Sathi Leelavathi, Ramachandran made his cinematic debut. He made his last on-screen appearance in the 1983 movie Aanandha Kummi. From 1977 until 1987, he also held the position of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

In the meanwhile, Jayalalitha J appeared in more than 140 films in a variety of languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, and English. Gowri Kalyanam, Kumari Penn, Naan, Magarasi, Madi Veettu Mappillai, Pannakarai Pillai, and Moondreezuthu are some of her well-known films. She had a great cinema career and also held the office of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
