US House Speaker McCarthy queries Biden’s lack of indictment despite having documents

Kevin McCarthy, the Republican speaker of the US House of Representatives from California, criticized the federal prosecution of former US President Donald Trump, claiming it might “disrupt” the country. According to McCarthy, it goes against the idea of equal justice under the law.

Earlier last week, McCarthy said on Fox News that while other famous figures—including US President Joe Biden—had papers they shouldn’t have had, they weren’t charged like Trump.

Because it involves the fundamental principle of equal justice for everyone, which is not now practiced, this will upend the country. Fox News and the Hill both paraphrased McCarthy as adding, “And we’re not going to stand for it.

For his acts, the former president is accused on 37 counts. The accusations against him that are most likely to damage his reputation with Republican voters are those of purposeful retention of national defense information, charges of devising a conspiracy to obstruct justice, and a plan to hide and make false statements and representations.

Donald Trump has claimed that he is innocent and that the probe is politically motivated, according to him and his associates. Trump also brought up the fact that the FBI received papers that were discovered at Biden’s home and office.

The records discovered at Biden’s offices and homes are the subject of an investigation by a special counsel.

The US House Speaker said he had discussions with fellow Republicans Jim Jordan of Ohio, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and James Comer of Kentucky, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, about what they might do to assure “equal justice.”

McCarthy also informed Fox News that Steven D’Antuono, a former assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Washington, D.C. field office, testified before the Judiciary Committee that the FBI’s August surprise search of Mar-a-Lago was carried out unlawfully.

The US House Speaker said that this probe has some dubious elements that make one think the Department of Justice made a mistaken decision. The US House Speaker added, “It didn’t have to be this way; they treated President Trump differently than they treat others.”

Jack Smith, the special counsel in charge of the investigation, defended the Justice Department and FBI. He said that the investigators “are among the most talented and experienced in the Department of Justice”.

The Hill cited Smith as adding, “They have investigated this matter according to the greatest ethical standards, and they will continue to do so as this case unfolds.
