West Bengal surpasses 38,000 dengue cases; municipal corporation will be open seven days a week

According to a statement from the state Health Department, West Bengal has had over 38,000 dengue cases this season. The overall number of illnesses reached 38,181 as of Monday. Despite frequent reports of mortality from dengue from several areas, the Department has not provided the precise figures.

What is concerning is that dengue is rapidly spreading to numerous areas in north Bengal, particularly Malda, according to a top Department source reported by IANS. In both north and south Bengal, a number of places have been identified as hotspot zones, where frequent specific monitoring is being carried out.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to run its health clinics seven days a week till the issue is under control due to a sudden increase in cases in the state capital.

Additionally, the KMC has canceled all of its employees’ leave requests for the next two months. The employees won’t be permitted to take vacation time around Durga Puja in October or Diwali in November.

In the meanwhile, the grave dengue situation in West Bengal has prompted the opposition BJP to criticize the state administration.

Similar to how scammers in West Bengal have lost their fear due to state government support, mosquitoes have also lost their fear as a result of the health officials’ lax approach to adopting preventative steps to control them. stated Samik Bhattacharya, the BJP’s West Bengal spokesperson.

Atin Ghosh, Member-Mayor-in-Council (health) and deputy mayor of the KMC, has said that the KMC alone cannot contain the threat unless the general public takes steps like keeping their homes and surrounding areas clean.
