17 Indians were drawn into hazardous and illicit labor in Laos on their journey back home

S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, said on Saturday that 17 Indian laborers who were drawn into hazardous and illicit jobs in Laos are now returning home.

Jaishankar complimented the Laotian government for their assistance in enabling the workers’ safe return home as well as the Indian embassy in Laos for its successful efforts in the issue.

He said, “Modi ki Guarantee works for everyone at home and abroad,” in a post on X. up their trip back home are seventeen Indian laborers who were tricked into taking up hazardous and illegal jobs in Laos. Congratulations, @IndianEmbLaos. Express gratitude to Lao officials for their assistance with the safe return,” he said.

The statement follows a cautionary advice from the foreign affairs ministry on Thursday alerting Indian citizens to the risks of becoming victims of human traffickers who promise attractive work opportunities in Cambodia.

In order to prevent exploitation, the ministry recommended Indians looking for work in Cambodia to extensively investigate the backgrounds of possible employers.
