Backlash to Punjab CM Mann’s effort to “amend” the Sikh Gurdwara Act to allow free telecasts of the Gurbani

Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, said on Sunday that the state government will revise the Sikh Gurdwara Act of 1925. This modification intends to guarantee that Gurbani broadcast from the Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar is freely available to everyone and does not need any tendering procedure.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led state administration will bring the resolution introducing these reforms to the Assembly on June 20 during the special session.

CM Bhagwant Mann highlighted the historic choice they would be making in a tweet he sent out on Sunday, thanking God for his blessings. In response to the request of the followers, a new provision will be inserted to the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925, enabling the free and open transmission of Gurbani from Harmandir Sahib without the need for a tendering procedure.

The cabinet will discuss the issue on Tuesday, and the resolution will be submitted to the Vidhan Sabha on June 20, according to an ANI story.

The All India Sikh Gurdwara Act of 1925, according to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), may only be altered by the Indian Parliament.

“I have always felt that everyone should be able to hear Gurbani from Sri Darbar Sahib, and that it should be transmitted to every family. Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, is attempting to undermine the authority of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, but he is unable to do so. It won’t be seen in any manner as legitimate or appropriate. Only the Indian Parliament has the authority to change the All India Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925. BJP National Spokesperson RP Singh tweeted, “@SGPCAmritsar.”

Daljeet Cheema, a former minister of education for Punjab and a prominent member of the Shiromani Akali Dal, voiced his disapproval of the choice. He denounced it as being unlawful and saw it as an outright intrusion into the Sikh community’s religious activities.
