Congress claims that journalists and Ramesh’s vehicle were attacked during the yatra in Sonitpur, Assam

In Assam’s Sonitpur district on Sunday, miscreants reportedly assaulted senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s car and “manhandled” media representatives who were following the party’s “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.”

On its fourth day in the state, the Rahul Gandhi-led Yatra is making its way from the Biswanth district to Sonitpur and Nagaon.

Mahima Singh, the communications coordinator for the All India Congress Committee (AICC), informed PTI that “the car of Ramesh ji and some others were moving to join the main Yatra entourage near Jamugurighat when it came under attack”.

The AICC leader said, “We notified the police, and the additional superintendent of police is at the location right now.”

According to her, the assailants tried to place a BJP flag on the car, almost shattering the back glass, and they also removed the Nyay Yatra stickers off it.

“A YouTuber documenting the Yatra had his camera, badge, and other equipment stolen. The party’s social media staff members were similarly mistreated, she said.

According to Singh, there was a BJP function going on in the neighborhood, and several media representatives had exited their cars to take pictures.

“They put us in a very scary scenario. They won’t give the vlogger’s camera back, saying it wasn’t stolen,” she said.
