Curfew Lifted Completely In Haldwani’s Riot-Hit Banbhoolpura

Tuesday morning saw the complete lifting of the curfew in the Banbhoolpura district of Haldwani, which had been in turmoil due to the destruction of a madrasa that was deemed “illegal.” The restrictions had been in place for 12 days.

There was an official order lifting the curfew, which took effect at 5 am.

For varied periods, the government granted relief on the days the curfew was in effect.

After the Banbhoolpura madrasa was demolished on February 8, there was fighting. On that day, residents threw stones and petrol bombs at police and municipal employees, forcing many of them to take cover in a police station, which the crowd later set on fire.

Six rioters were slain in the incident, while the police said that over 100 others were wounded, including media representatives and law enforcement officers.

So far, 68 individuals have been taken into custody in relation to the violence. Additionally, their properties have been linked.
