Heavy Rainfall In Rajasthan From Cyclone Biparjoy; Amit Shah Will Visit Gujarat Regions Affected

On Friday and Saturday, various locations in Rajasthan saw significant rainfall as Cyclone Biparjoy moved ahead of Gujarat.

Strong winds forecast to blow in the areas of Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, and Pali have prompted the meteorological agency to issue a “Orange” notice.

For the districts of Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Churu, Sikar, Nagaur, Jhunjhunu, Ajmer, Udaipur, and Rajsamand, a “Yellow” warning has been issued.

A rainfall of 210 mm was recorded in Mount Abu, 136 mm in Sedwa in Barmer, 135 mm in Mount Abu tehsil, 110 mm in Raniwada of Jalore, 76 mm in Bidasaria in Churu, 68 mm in Reodar, 59 mm in Sanchor, 57 mm in Pindwara, 49 mm each in Gogunda and Girva, 47 mm in Jalore, 46 mm each in Sindri and Jaswantpura of Jalore, 40 mm in Jhadol, 38 mm in Abu Road, 35 mm in Kotda, 30 mm in Sirohi, 26 mm in Kumbhalgarh and 25.7 mm in Udaipur till 8.30 am, said officials.

Due to the cyclone’s impacts, several other locations in the state also saw rainfall throughout the time, with amounts ranging from 1 mm to 22 mm, according to the authorities.

According to an official, the cyclone is now a deep depression in Rajasthan and will weaken further to fall under the depression category. He said that rain would continue to pour in certain areas of the state until Monday.

The state’s lowest temperature was between 20 and 30*C at the time.

The greatest maximum temperature in the state on Friday was 41.4 degrees Celsius in Bundi, followed by 39.9 degrees Celsius in Sriganganagar.

Separately, but relatedly, authorities announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would go to Gujarat’s Kutch and Jakhau port on Saturday to assess the situation in the cyclone-affected regions.

Shah will also meet with key officials, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Shah will go to Kutch to assess the cyclone’s impact on the region, a home ministry official said.

Shah would visit Jakhau port in Kutch and Mandvi after first doing an aerial reconnaissance of the afflicted regions. He will also meet folks and go to houses that are shelters. Later, he would go and go to Bhuj’s Swami Narayan Temple.
