Odisha: Police net contains fictitious RTOs and intelligence officers

On Thursday, two people were taken into custody by Jaleswar police for allegedly tricking drivers by posing as regional transport officers (RTOs) close to the Laxmannath toll plaza on NH-60.

The bogus RTOs were identified by the police as Sambhu Sahu (27), of Nandhadia in the East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, and Tushar Ranjan Parida (34), of Nahanjar village in Jaleswar.

According to Jaleswar IIC Ranjan Sethi, a police squad raided the location after receiving reliable information regarding a fictitious RTO office functioning close to the Laxmannath toll plaza. A laptop and printer were discovered in an office area containing the accused. Both of them introduced themselves as RTOs.

Police searched the room and discovered paperwork pertaining to a check post in Chittoor, an RTO receipt from the West Bengal government, seals from the MV section in Kharagpur and the traffic police of West Bengal, and other forged documents. They also found eleven stamps from the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana departments of transportation.

The IIC said that none of the two could provide an authorization document to operate the office. When questioned, the accused acknowledged that they were using their positions as RTO officials in the central division to administer the fictitious Transport department office. Sections 417, 419, 420, 384, and 34 of the IPC were utilized to register a case, and the accused were presented in court.

Similar to this, Orkel police in Malkangiri detained a guy who had fooled two people out of almost Rs 4 lakh by pretending to be an intelligence officer. Navin Dash, the defendant, resides in Kudmulgumma.

According to Orkel IIC Dhiren Patnaik, Navin was detained as a result of two distinct allegations that were filed by Madhumita Panda of Niladrinagar village and Dhana Macha of Kupliguda.

Dash, who claimed to be an intelligence officer, defrauded Madhumita of Rs 3.67 lakh by pretending to provide her a loan of Rs 25 lakh from many banks. Similar to this, the con artist defrauded Dhana of Rs 50,000 by pretending to offer him a position in the police force. The IIC also said that the accused was detained and appeared in court the same day.
