Seven BJP MLAs were suspended from the assembly by the Delhi High Court for interfering with the LG’s speech

The High Court on Wednesday overturned the suspension of seven BJP Members of Legislative Assembly from the Delhi Legislative Assembly for interjecting during Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s speech during the Budget session. Mohan Singh Bisht, Ajay Mahawar, OP Sharma, Abhay Verma, Anil Bajpai, Jitender Mahajan, and Vijender Gupta are the BJP MLAs who are suspended. The suspension of the MLAs was overturned by Justice Subramonium Prasad. On February 27, the court had set aside its decision on the pleas.

In their appeal to the High Court, the seven MLAs argued that their detention until the privileges committee hearings were over was unlawful under the relevant regulations. They contend that their basic rights were violated and that the move for their suspension was illegal.

When Saxena was speaking to the Assembly on February 15 on the achievements of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, BJP members kept interrupting him. After that, AAP MLA Dilip Pandey brought a motion requesting their suspension to the House. The resolution was passed by Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, who had also sent the issue to the privileges committee.

All BJP lawmakers were prohibited from attending the House sessions, with the exception of Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the Leader of the Opposition. Due to a delay in the finalization of the budget, the session has been prolonged until the first week of March.

On February 15, 2024, the Delhi assembly’s budget session got underway. The LG presented the policies, plans, and initiatives of the AAP-led Delhi government in the areas of infrastructure, social welfare, transportation, health, and education. The LG was allegedly repeatedly interrupted as he began his address by listing the accomplishments of the AAP.
