SpiceJet Temporarily Stops Operating From Puducherry Airport; More Information Below

Due to operational challenges, SpiceJet, the sole airline operating out of Puducherry Airport, has announced a temporary suspension of operations. For the time being, SpiceJet has suspended service from Puducherry to Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

“We don’t know the precise cause of the flights’ suspension. Service to both areas has been discontinued due to operational challenges. They have consented to resume operations beginning the next month, according to a representative of the Airports Authority of India’s Puducherry office.

When questioned, SpiceJet admitted that it will take some time for flight operations from Puducherry Airport to restart.

However, the suspension of flights remained unknown to the authorities until Monday night. A top official told The Hindu, “The service provider has not informed us of the development.”

The operations from the Puducherry Airport were canceled on June 13th, according to the SpiceJet Staff. “As of right moment, we won’t accept reservations until October. Flight scarcity is one of the factors that led to the suspension of operations, according to a SpiceJet employee.

In 2013, SpiceJet began operating in Puducherry for the first time. In 2015, Alliance Air and Air India leapt for the region’s improved connectivity.SpiceJet discontinued its services in the industry six months later. SpiceJet resumed flights in 2017, but subsequently stopped owing to COVID-19.

Pandemic. The services returned in 2022 at the government of Puducherry’s request.

A frequent traveler from Puducherry said that, “On several occasions there had been cancellations even while being in service in the recent months,”

Such service interruptions are bad for the UT since the government intends to expand the airport to allow for the use of wide-bodied planes. The administration must increase air connection if it is serious about boosting tourism. If we have erratic service providers, it won’t bode well for the tourist sector, one businessman said.

According to a representative of the Airport Authority of India, the flights out of Puducherry have decent reservations and can accommodate around 250 people daily.

V. Saminathan, the head of the BJP in Puducherry, addressed a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday asking for his help in restoring flying operations. Additionally, he noted that flight cancellations will have an effect on the union territory’s tourist industry.
