Abhimanyu Easwaran: “I Just Want to Keep Focusing on Getting Better”

Abhimanyu Easwaran, a star of Indian local cricket, spoke candidly about being left off the senior Test squad for the forthcoming West Indies trip. During the most recent Ranji Trophy, the gifted hitter was in outstanding form, scoring 798 runs in eight games at an average of 66.50. The selectors, however, once again chose to overlook him.

Easwaran has previously traveled with the Indian team in both standby and squad capacities, although he has not yet played his first Test match. He was chosen as a backup player for the 2021 World Test Championship Final and England trip, and when Rohit Sharma sustained an injury last year, he was included in the team for the Bangladesh Test series.

The 27-year-old said that after being passed over for the WI tour and without hearing from the BCCI about what he needed to improve on to gain a spot, there was no contact from the selection committee.

No, I haven’t heard from anybody yet, Easwaran admitted to Sportstar.

The right-handed hitter has so far played 87 First Class games and amassed 6556 runs at a magnificent average of 52.65, including 22 centuries. Sarfaraz Khan and Priyank Panchal are also left out of the team by the selectors in addition to Easwaran.

Despite dominating the East Zone in the Duleep Trophy, Easwaran isn’t ready to give up on his aspirations and says he just wants to grow better as a cricketer every day.

Irrespective of whether I am selected or not, it is there. As a cricket player, I want to improve. Every day, I aim to improve and lift the bar. I have no control over selection, but I can endeavor to become better every day to help any team I play for—club, state, India A, East Zone, or the Indian squad—contribute more. I simply want to concentrate on it since that has always been the mental process. All I want is to keep trying. I just want to maintain my attention on becoming better,” he remarked.
