Axar’s bowling is made fun of by the former captain of Pakistan, who remarks, “If he didn’t get any turn on Colombo pitch, where will he?”

India has had a successful run in the Super 4 stage of the present Asia Cup. After crushing Pakistan by 228 runs, they next defeated Sri Lanka by 41 runs. The majority of the players have been in excellent form, led by skipper Rohit Sharma, who scored back-to-back half-centuries.

Moving on, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Virat Kohli have all performed well with the bat. Similar to how the batsmen have been devastating, the bowlers have been as well, with Kuldeep Yadav leading the way with nine wickets in only two games.

Despite all the positives, Axar Patel has not received much acclaim, with his bowling being a major worry.

Recent performances indicate that Axar’s bowling has significantly declined, with the all-rounder returning without a wicket against Sri Lanka on a Premadasa ground where spinners dominated play.

Dunith Wellalage, a 20-year-old rookie, shocked the Indian batting order by taking his first five wickets in an ODI. Charith Asalanka, an infrequent off-spinner, too had a great game, while the Indian team’s Kuldeep and Ravindra Jadeja were similarly potent.

Even though Colombo’s environment was favorable for spin, Axar’s struggles were clear. The all-rounder, who replaced Shardul Thaur in the XI, was used for five overs during which he gave up 29 runs.

Not satisfied with Axar Patel’s bowling is Salman Butt

Salman Butt, a former Pakistani opener, made a similar point when analyzing the game on his YouTube channel.

“Based on his bowling, Axar Patel cannot be compared to Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. His batting is certainly pretty strong, but where will he get any turn if not on this wicket? Because there was so much turn available, Charith Asalanka also took four wickets. Axar Patel, on the other hand, received zero turns, which is worrying,” he remarked.

Kuldeep and Jadeja received nothing but appreciation from the former Pakistani captain. In the middle overs, the pair combined for six wickets, enabling India to win and go to the Asia Cup final.

The ball is given air by Kuldeep Yadav. Because Kuldeep and Jadeja both had excellent releases, there is a lot of rip. Instead of providing the ball air and revs, our bowlers drive the ball in the direction of the hitters. Their trajectory is flatter as they bowl. Jadeja gets rip, yes, but he also bowls flat.
