Before the ODI World Cup, Ravi Shastri makes a significant declaration about India’s captaincy: Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya

After failing to end India’s wait for an ICC trophy, Rohit Sharma’s legacy as IPL captain has come under scrutiny. The Indian superstar was in command of the squad for the World Test Championship in 2023 and the T20 World Cup in 2022, but Sharma failed to get over the second-to-last and final barrier in those two competitions. The team was scrutinised after India’s defeat in the WTC Final, and several adjustments were made.
Notably, while India continues to go through a period of change, there have been discussions of permanently transferring the T20 leadership to Hardik Pandya, who is also seen as Rohit’s replacement in ODIs. While Pandya should relinquish the ODI leadership after the competition in India, Rohit should lead India in the forthcoming World Cup, according to Ravi Shastri, India’s former head coach.

“I believe he should take over as captain in white-ball cricket after the World Cup. There is no doubt that Rohit should captain India in the World Cup, Shastri told The Week.

It’s important not to hurry Jasprit Bumrah.

Jasprit Bumrah shouldn’t be hurried before the ODI World Cup, the former coach said. “Bumrah is a crucial cricket player. However, if you hurry him to go to the World Cup, you risk losing him for four months thereafter, much like Shaheen Afridi. Therefore, there is a fine line that has to be considered, Shastri added.

Following their match against Australia in the 2023 World Test Championship final, the Indian Cricket Team is presently on a one-month rest. The next task for India is an all-format series against the West Indies, which will begin on July 12. There will be three ODIs, five T20Is, and two Test matches.
