Wrestlers object: Roger Binny separates himself from the 1983 World Cup team’s statement

Roger Binny, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), made it clear that he was not a member of the group that released a statement on June 2 in support of the continuing wrestlers’ protest. The members of the 1983 World Cup-winning cricket team expressed their support for the protesting wrestlers by stating that they are “distressed and disturbed,” although Binny, the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, has distanced himself from the group and believes that politics and sports shouldn’t mingle.
Contrary to certain media reports, I would want to make it clear that I haven’t made any statements on the wrestlers’ protest’s present state of affairs, Binny said to PTI.

“I think the problem is being resolved by the appropriate authorities. Sports and politics shouldn’t be mingled together, in my opinion as a former cricket player, Binny said.

The top wrestlers joining the demonstration calling for the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh include Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik. On May 30, they took the demonstration to Haridwar and threatened to throw their medals into the Ganges.

The World Cup-winning team members advised the wrestlers who were being tested earlier on Friday to avoid making hasty decisions and asked the parties concerned to find a solution. “We are upset and horrified by the unsightly footage of our champion wrestlers being mistreated. We are also really worried that they may be considering throwing away their well-earned medals in the Ganges, according to the World Cup winning team’s statement.

The 1983 World Cup winning England team’s captain, Kapil Dev, said that the whole squad supports the claim. The 1983 squad as a whole stands by the statement we have made, therefore I won’t say anything specifically, Kapil stated. According to reports, Kirit Azad merely requested the agreement of Madan Lal and Kapil Dev before delivering a statement on Friday.
