Chinese Cop, Following Son’s Tragic Death, Becomes Lawyer To Pursue Justice

Zhang Dingjie and his spouse Wang Beilei have been fighting for justice for their kid Zhang Kuan for the last two years. Sadly, on November 9, 2021, the 11-year-old in Jiangxi province, eastern China, took his own life by leaping over the top of a 24-story building that was located across from his elementary school.

According to the South China Morning Post, Zhang Dingji, a former traffic police officer, quit his job to pursue justice for his son Zhang Kuan. Taking up his son’s case on his own, he wants the accountable teacher to get the worst penalty possible.

The young person penned a message to himself before ending his life, which said, “My death has nothing to do with my parents, society, or the country.” Zou was the only one bothering me, which is why this is happening. Xu Zhang, the child’s class instructor, was the one generating issues.

When the infant died, the parents looked through the school’s security footage and discovered that Xu had mistreated the child that day. When the boy seemed unhappy, Xu further riled him up by telling him to “go and jump,” accusing him of lying. He even made fun of them over a ripped notebook page.

Prior to the terrible event, Zhang was accused by Zou of lying, saying that he had not turned in a test paper that he had never received. Due to a ripped page in his notebook, the instructor also made the young student feel uncomfortable by inquiring about his financial position.

Zhang’s father saw his kid becoming agitated and fixating on the towering structure outside the classroom window. The distraught parent claimed—accurately, Zou has denied—that Zou had advised her pupils to “jump off the building across from the school” on many occasions.

The father sued the instructor as a lawyer after obtaining proof. In August 2023, after the first trial, Zou—who had lost her teaching position two months before to the boy’s death—was declared not guilty. Regretfully, at the hearing, security video footage could not be shown due to technological difficulties.

In November of last year, Zhang senior returned the instructor to court, where he is still awaiting a decision. The father has gained recognition on mainland social media for helping other parents in similar circumstances after he became a lawyer.

Nearly 100 families dealing with comparable issues have benefited from the free assistance his wife, a professional counselor, has offered. “Since our son’s death, protecting all the other children like him has become our mission,” the parents said.
