Trichologist Trainer Discloses Surprising Reason Why Hair Isn’t Totally Dry in the Air

Heat is often thought to be bad for hair. Long thought to be damaging, straightening or blow-drying is said to dry out hair ends, causing breakage and frizz. It is also said to remove natural oils from hair. A current hair specialist, however, refuted these assertions and said they were false.

Abbey Yung, a social media content producer who is enrolled in a trichology degree program, said she was surprised to learn some of the facts regarding hair. Trichology is the study of hair and scalp disease diagnosis.

According to Abbey, entirely air-drying hair might be more harmful. She said in a recent TikTok video that no one would thoroughly dry their hair in the air if they pay attention to the reasons why. She said that according to one of the research, which was published in 1981, hair loses its sebum and oil more slowly when dried in the air than when it is dried with a drier.

She said, “You will naturally lose excess oil in many other ways, but drying your hair with a blow dryer makes it even faster,” in the annual conference of the American Oil Chemist’s Society. When she read these explanations regarding hair science, she was startled to learn these details.

In other words, this is the reason why blow-drying your hair doesn’t appear to make it greasy as soon as air-drying it fully. Abbey put it this way: Less sebum is lost from the scalp, hence there is more sebum remained on the scalp.

She continued by saying that using a blow dryer to dry your hair speeds up the process of sebum loss, which happens more quickly when a person combs their hair, sleeps on a pillow, and for a variety of other reasons. Overheating never does hair any good. She described how to blow dry your hair from the roots, drying 80% of it in the air and blow drying the last 20%.

About 850k people have seen the movie, and many were astounded by these hair facts as they became aware of why drying hair in the air causes it to get greasy so rapidly. By leaving comments on the video, many individuals expressed their opinions. “How appropriate! When I dry my hair, it goes a long time without being washed,” stated one of the comments.
