Currently at 54, a landslide in the Philippines buried a community on Tuesday

MANILA: Authorities said on Sunday that 63 people remained unaccounted for in the enormous landslide that struck a gold-mining community in the southern Philippines, leaving 54 dead.

Following weeks of intense rain, a landslide struck the highland community of Masara in the province of Davao de Oro on Tuesday night. The provincial administration of Davao de Oro announced the recovery of 54 remains on Facebook.It reported that although at least 32 people had survived, 63 were still unaccounted for. Gold miners who were waiting to be taken home in two busses when the landslide occurred and buried them were among those reported missing. A concern of more landslides and bad weather have complicated the search effort.
