District continues to lead in complaints of poll code violations, with 100% of them handled

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Ludhiana continues to lead the state in the number of complaints it receives about poll code violations. A record 100% of these complaints are investigated and addressed within the allotted time frame.

Since the announcement of the general election to the 18th Lok Sabha nationwide on March 16, Punjab has received up to 1,650 complaints alleging violations of the model code of conduct (MCC) imposed by the ECI. All of these complaints have been addressed and resolved within a set time frame, with the exception of one that was also pending investigation, according to official figures.

As a result of prompt action, 1,105 out of the 1,168 cases that were handled were settled or handled in less than 100 minutes.

The district of Ludhiana has also requested and received the most number of approvals in relation to poll-related requests of all kinds across the state.

CEO Sibin C. informed The Tribune on Friday that from March 16 to May 2, 1,650 complaints of various kinds regarding poll code violations had been received in 23 different state districts. Of these, all had been addressed and resolved within the allotted time frame, meaning that, with the exception of one unusual case that was still under investigation, the resolution rate was nearly 100%.

Out of the 1,168 complaints that were investigated and determined to be accurate, 1,105 of them were resolved by taking the necessary action in a record-breaking period of less than 100 minutes, accounting for about 95% of the rapid resolution/accuracy rate.

The last strange situation in Patiala was being looked into, was being handled, and would hopefully be resolved soon, while 481 complaints were abandoned at various stages of the inquiry after being determined to be invalid or untrue.

He said that in the more than two weeks of the poll code period, 2,831 different types of election-related permissions had been requested across 117 Assembly segments in 13 Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 23 districts in the state. Of these, 2,184 were approved within the allotted time, 378 were denied for different reasons in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the ECI, and the remaining 269 were in the process of being approved or denied in accordance with the regulations.

Out of the total number of permission requests, 129 were still pending after the deadline. These included a maximum of 12 requests in Sanour, two requests in each of Ludhiana Central and Malout, and one request in each of the following assembly segments: Amritsar Central, Dasuya, Nawanshahr, Kharar, Ludhiana West, and Ferozepur.

The CEO stated that all deputy commissioners, who have been tasked with overseeing the district election officers (DEOs) in their respective districts, have been requested to respond expeditiously to all complaints of poll code violations and to issue election-related permits that have been determined to be valid and eligible in accordance with ECI guidelines.

“So far, a record 95% of all poll code violation complaints have been accurately reported; all complaints have been addressed and resolved within the allotted time frame; not a single complaint has been left unresolved past the allowable time limit in any part of the state,” Sibin stated.

CEO: Use the C-Vigil mobile app for quick action.

“People should use our C-Vigil mobile application and other accessible channels to report MCC infractions as they come up. We pledge to look into every complaint and, in accordance with ECI principles, respond appropriately to those that are confirmed to be true. On the smartphone app, complainants may also monitor the status of their complaints. At all costs, no one will be permitted to violate the poll code. Sibin C., CEO of Punjab, said, “We are dedicated to holding a free, fair, peaceful, easy, and transparent election across the state.
