Gujarat would not hire any 3L qualified teachers for two years

1.18 lakh individuals in Gujarat who passed the Teacher Aptitude Test (TAT) but are still jobless, and 2.75 lakh candidates who passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). Passing these tests is a requirement for teaching employment.

In the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, the government admitted that 3.88 lakh of the 3.94 lakh applicants who passed the TET and TAT exams in the previous two years are jobless at the moment.

Gujarat has seen a number of demonstrations about the use of TET and TAT pass scores in teacher recruitment. In the Gujarat Assembly, Congress MLA Kirit Patel questioned the number of people who passed these tests and the proportion who were hired.

Kirit Patel asked for data, and the government responded that as of December 31, 2023, 2, 35, 956 applicants had passed TAT-2, 75,328 had finished TAT Secondary, and 39,395 candidates had passed TAT-1. Furthermore, 15,253 applicants attained TAT Higher Secondary dual level, while 28,307 candidates finished TAT Secondary dual level.

3.94 lakh individuals passed the teacher eligibility tests as a result, and the government hired 2300 TET-1 candidates and 3378 TET-II candidates in 2022. But in 2022, there was no recruiting at secondary or upper secondary schools.

In a similar vein, the government said that no applicants were sought for primary or secondary government- or grant-aided schools in 2023. The government said, “Recruitment will be carried out as per requirement,” in response to a question from a Congress MLA on the hiring timeframe.

Therefore, just 5,678 of the 3.94 lakh TAT and TET applicants were hired in the previous two years, the administration acknowledged before the legislature. In the meanwhile, Education Minister Kuber Dindor told the House on February 26 in response to a question from Congress MLA Arvind Ladani that as of March 2023, 5,940 teaching jobs were open at 4,146 state-run and government-aided upper secondary schools.

He went on to say that as of March 2023, 3,260 teaching posts were open in a variety of state-run and government-aided secondary schools in answer to a question posed by Gulabsinh Chauhan, a different Congress lawmaker.
