Sibal Attacks BJP Over Maharashtra Train Fire, Haryana Clashes, and Manipur Violence in “Achche Din”

On Wednesday, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal attacked the BJP for the shooting on the Maharashtra train, the fighting in Haryana, and the unrest in Manipur, questioning if these incidents represented the “achche din” promised.

He said that such tragedies were caused by hateful politics. Near Palghar station on the suburbs of Mumbai, RPF constable Chetan Singh (33) is accused of shooting dead his superior Assistant Sub-Inspector Tikaram Meena and three passengers, Abdul Kadarbhai Mohammed Hussain Bhanpurwala (58), Asgar Abbas Sheikh (48), and Syed S (43).

Communal violence that started in Haryana’s Nuh spread to the nearby city of Gurugram, where a cleric was slain by a mob during a late-night assault on a mosque. After a “Tribal Solidarity March” was organized in the state’s hill regions to oppose the Meitei community’s desire for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, violence broke out in Manipur for more than two months, killing over 160 people and wounding hundreds.

Sibal said in a tweet, “Politics of Hate! RPF Jawan killed four people aboard the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express. victims whose faith was known. “Shops and a mosque were set on fire; the Nuh imam was slain along with four others. In Manipur, police are accused of participating in violence against women. He questioned “Achche Din.”

Sibal, a Union minister under UPA I and II, left the Congress in May of last year and received support from the Samajwadi Party to be elected as an Independent to the Rajya Sabha. He has put out the non-electoral platform “Insaaf,” which aims to combat injustice.
