‘Missing’ from the Asian Games Arunachal Pradesh-based Indian Wushu player says she is “Alright”

Mepung Lamgu, an Indian wushu player who was unable to compete in the Asian Games due to diplomatic concerns with China, said on Saturday that she is “fine,” bringing solace to her family members in Arunachal Pradesh.

A day after her brother in Arunachal Pradesh informed PTI that she had gone incommunicado after being refused visa to go to China for the Games, Lamgu commented on her newly established social media account ‘X’, “I am fine and currently in SAI Hostel.” Her brother had told PTI that she had gone incommunicado after being denied visa to travel to China for the Games.

“There is absolutely nothing for you to be concerned about since I am in daily contact with my family. She continued by saying “thank you” for your care and support.

Additionally, she sent a picture of herself eating breakfast with SAI officers in the attachment.

We are here to support the three Wushu athletes who are competing in the #AsianGames2022 and are taking the best care of them at this time. According to a report made by the media section of the coordinating sports organization, the three athletes are receiving medical attention at the SAI Hostel.

Accreditation, which doubles as a visa, was refused to Lamgu, along with Nyeman Wangsu and Onilu Tega by the authorities in China.

The three of them were a part of an 11-person wushu contingent, but after arriving at the airport, they were forced to go back to the SAI guesthouse because they were refused visas.

China considers the whole Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, which is located in the northeastern part of the country, to be part of China.

Her brother Gandhi Lamgu, who works as a physician in Itanagar, said that following the refusal of a suitable visa, she was sobbing uncontrollably and could not be consoled.

“At this point, she isn’t even picking up when we phone, and the line is coming through shut off. On Friday, Gandhi had told PTI that not only are we concerned about her, but we are also really worried about her. “Hope she doesn’t do anything extreme as she is crying inconsolably,” Gandhi had said. “So we are also very worried about her.”

Lamgu was a potential medal winner for India in the Asian Games. Over the last two years, he has competed in the Moscow Wushu Star competition and won a silver and a bronze.

Mepung made her debut in the Wushu world in 2016, when she competed as a junior and won bronze in the International Wushu Championship held in Georgia.

After that, she went on to win two gold medals in the Moscow Wushu Star 2022 competition; this year, she earned a bronze medal in the same competition held in Moscow.

She also excelled in the Gujarat National Games, where she brought home the gold medal. After that, she traveled to Seppa, which is her birthplace.
