The identity of the deceased is said to be Dhanrajo Devi, wife of Yamuna Singh resident of Baraon village of Kochus police station area of Rohtas district, and Butni Devi, wife of Ram Surat Singh, resident of Rasen village of Rajpur police station area.

Some of his other relatives were also with him. According to tradition, from Ahiroli Ganga Ghat in Buxar, they were going on a boat from one bank of the Ganges to the other.
