Imran Khan is the subject of a bailable arrest warrant issued by a Pakistani court in connection with judicial complex violence in Islamabad

Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, was given an arrest warrant on Thursday by a judge in Pakistan’s anti-terrorism division for failing to appear in court in connection with a case involving violence that broke out at the Judicial Complex here in March.

After altercations broke out between police and Khan’s followers when the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party appeared before a court at the Judicial Complex on March 18, many complaints were filed against the 70-year-old Khan in several Islamabad police stations.

Early in March, Khan and many other members of his Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf were arrested for altercations with the police and damaging property near the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) and the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad presided over the proceeding and wanted Khan’s attendance despite the fact that his legal team had asked for his exclusion from the in-person hearing.

The judge issued a warrant for his arrest as well as the arrests of fellow PTI Leaders Farrukh Habib, Shibli Faraz, and Hassaan Niazi after refusing to accept the plea and reminding the defendant that he must appear in court. The court then ordered Khan and the other defendants to attend and postponed the case to July 19. Approximately 200 complaints have been filed against Khan, according to his party, since his overthrow in April of last year.
