Yashasvi Jaiswal: “Helps Me Maintain Positive Frame of Mind” Everybody Applauds Rohit Sharma

Yashasvi Jaiswal has no qualms about admitting that the South Africa series was difficult, and he claims that India captain Rohit Sharma was instrumental in keeping him optimistic. On bumpy fields at Supersport Park in Centurion and Newlands in Cape Town, Jaiswal scored only 50 runs in 4 innings, and the two-Test series finished in a 1-1 tie. “We needed to score runs against new ball quickly and Rohit Sharma helps me maintain a positive frame of mind,” Jaiswal said after his blistering 28 off 23 balls that set the tone for India’s 79-ball chase.

“We needed to win the match, so all I could think about was getting off to a strong start. I had done the same thing in the past three innings as well as throughout this knock.” The 22-year-old is aware that his tackle bounce and lateral movement off the surface need to be improved.

Certainly, I have learned a lot from this journey. A very different setting, and it has been a nice experience overall. I’ve learned what has to be improved,” Jaiswal said.

“Here, the ball arrives differently, and while I did my hardest, I acknowledge that there were difficulties. This experience will help me as I continue to study and work to become better in the next series.” When asked whether he will continue to bat in an aggressive manner throughout the next Test series against England, which begins in Hyderabad on January 25, Jaiswal graciously responded in the negative.

“I don’t want to stick to any one style, and my style isn’t limited to attacking. As requested by the squad, I may adjust my game,” he said.

If it were the first day of play and 70 runs were required, I would bat differently. I try to adjust my style to fit the demands of the squad.” Senior players like Virat Kohli and captain Rohit often give him advice on how to adjust his style of play depending on the circumstances, while coach Rahul Dravid has discussed some technical issues with him.

“In difficult circumstances, Rahul sir informed me that if you get struck or defeated but continue to bat, you are doing well. What deliveries to play, how to leave deliveries from length,” he said.

What, nevertheless, has been the coach’s finest piece of advice? “Basically, he wants me to bat freely and always with a smile.”
