The New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has issued a show cause notice to Hotel Le-Meridien to ban all restaurants, lodging houses and all manner of business activity. NDMC has said that the license of the hotel has expired and unauthorized construction has been done in its premises. The notice states that action can be taken against the hotel for not doing so. The NDMC has given Le Meridien a week's time to respond.
According to the Times of India report, the hotel has called the notice arbitrary, stating that NDMC had refused to extend the license to restaurants and other things and the matter is pending in court. The case of unauthorized construction is 32 years old, for which a petition is filed in the court. This notice was issued to the hotel by NDMC on 1 March.
In the notice, it was asked that why not seal all the restaurants of the hotel, lodging houses and other things, which are running despite the expiry of the license. According to the report, the Municipal Corporation has said, “Health license for 10 restaurants was issued to CJ International Hotels Limited in July 2017. These licenses expired on 31 March 2020. The hotel had applied again for renewal on the portal of NDMC and MHA. "
The hotel was also given information before - NDMC
The municipal corporation said that the application was rejected because an unauthorized construction was done in the hotel premises. Apart from this, the hotel license has also expired. NDMC says that health license was not given due to unauthorized construction as it was to be broken. The hotel was told on January 20 that these things cannot be run without a license. But the instructions were not followed. Only after this, show cause notice has been issued.
Sources in the hotel said, "When the NDMC denied the health license, the hotel challenged it in the Delhi High Court and it was stayed." In 2020, the health license of all hotels was extended to 31 March 2021 during the epidemic. The license of Le Meridien was not extended only on the basis of unauthorized construction 32 years ago. ”
He also told that NDMC had assured the hotel in the Delhi High Court that it would not take any strict action. This show cause notice is not only arbitrary, but also contempt of court. He said that the hotel will decide further according to the law.
