Temple priest shot dead due to land dispute in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh

Gonda The priest was shot dead in the early hours of Sunday in a temple dispute in Tirre Manorama village under Etiathok police station area in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh . The injured priest is undergoing treatment at King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow . Police registered an indictment against four persons in the case and detained two for questioning. Superintendent of Police Shailesh Kumar Pandey said that there is a Ram Janaki temple in Tirre Manorama village.

There is a dispute among some people in the village over about 30 acres of land near the temple. He said that some people shot the temple priest Atul Baba alias Samrat Das on Sunday morning. Kumar said that the priest was brought to the district hospital for treatment, where the doctors sent him to King George Medical University, Lucknow for better treatment. The SP said that the condition of the priest is being said to be stable.

In this regard, two accused have been detained for interrogation by registering a case of attempt to murder against four persons on Tahrir of Mahant Sitaram Das. He said that there has been a dispute about this land in the past and a lawsuit is registered. SP said that police force is deployed on the spot. He said that there is complete peace in the area. Teams have been formed and sent to arrest the named accused. It is said that two home guards were also stationed at the temple premises for protection at night. Despite this, there is anger among the villagers about this incident.
